In 2007, while teaching at a school for semi-urban children, I encountered a yearning that extended beyond academics. The mothers of my students were eager to learn something meaningful—something that could uplift their families and provide sustainable livelihood. That yearning planted the very first seed of Neev.
A Lesson Beyond the Classroom
Every afternoon, once the school bell rang and the children left with homework in hand, a new kind of class began. I started teaching the mothers how to make handmade soaps—simple, natural, healing. What began as a heartfelt after-school activity soon revealed a deeper purpose. These women were not just learning a skill—they were reclaiming agency over their lives.
With unwavering belief and limited means, we registered our initiative under the Khadi Village Industries Commission. Back then, we had just one artisan and a modest loan of ₹60,000. Our first product line? Just five variants of handmade soap, each created with care, patience, and ingredients from nature’s own kitchen.
From Five Soaps to a Movement
What started as a small batch production in Hurlung village began to grow as more women joined and more people believed. Over time, Neev evolved into a women’s rural enterprise, powered entirely by natural processes—solar energy, zero-pollution practices, and organically grown herbs.
Today, we offer more than 150 herbal and Ayurvedic products, from soaps to skincare to hair oils, all rooted in ancient wellness traditions. Our units now produce over 1 lakh units annually, and the ripple effects go far beyond revenue. Neev supports:
